Try Painting Your Old Furniture Pieces

Furniture is expensive, especially quality pieces of furniture. Therefore, if you're attempting to redecorate a room rather than purchasing all new furniture, one choice you have is painting your old furniture. As long as you know what you are doing, painting your old furniture is simple, but you can't rush the method if you want it done correctly.

When painting furniture the very first thing that you need to do is sand the entire piece of furniture. With this in mind it is important to notice that only wood furniture can be painted. Particleboard or something else that's flimsy cannot be and so painting it can be tricky. Once you have sanded the whole piece of furniture you are going to need to use a damp cloth to get rid of all the dust left behind from sanding.

After sanding the furniture it will need to be painted. Before you can paint the furniture you will need to choose the best color for the furniture. If you're painting bedroom furniture you need to choose a color that compliments the bedspread or perhaps the walls. If you don't need to use colours on bedroom furniture you can always stain the furniture a natural color after sanding it.

Once the furniture has been painted a clear coat of polyurethane must be applied to the furniture. In reality the furniture will need a couple of coats of polyurethane because that'll be what protects it from damage. Living room furniture, which is put to more use than other furniture should receive more coats than other furniture. When applying the polyurethane you will want to make sure you are going with the natural grain of the furniture for the best results. You may also must allow each coat to dry before applying the following coat.

Painting furniture is a good way to bring old furniture back to life. It is also a great way to make a new look for your place while staying within a budget. However, painting furniture will only work if you have prime quality furniture to start with.
